Overbrook in the 1930s and 40s
In February 2015, Jim Burton sent his 21-page Sketches of My Overbrook to then OCA President Rawlson King. Excerpts of his recollections were published in eight issues of Nouvelles d‘Overbrook News between June 2015 and September 2017. Links to the stories of Jim’s childhood in Overbrook in the 1930s and 1940s can be found on the Overbrook Then and Now page of our website.

a. Election information
Don’t forget to vote! Voting information, job opportunities and a list of registered candidates for Ottawa-Vanier can be found on the Elections Ontario website.
The deadline to apply to vote by mail is 6 PM (Eastern Time) on May 27. There are also many advance polls if you prefer to vote in person before Election Day.

OCA and neighbouring community associations are working together to organize a virtual all candidates’ meeting. Watch for details on our Events page.
c. Land use planning IS an election issue for neighbourhoods
The Federation of Citizens’ Associations of Ottawa (FCA) has been dealing with a number of issues involving land use planning policies and has prepared an issue sheet endorsed by the FCA Board, entitled "Land Use Planning is a provincial election issue", for reference for the upcoming provincial election on June 2.
The FCA supports the value of good public planning, including due process, public notice, public consultation and participation in the planning process, and accountability for land use planning decisions.
4. City of Ottawa Women and gender equity strategy: have your say!
Ottawa City Council.approved its Women and Gender Equity Strategy (WGES) in April 2021 and is now seeking community input on Phase 2. The strategy aims to ensure City services, strategies, and plans integrate a women and gender lens and proactively promote women and gender equity. The purpose of the Phase 2 engagement is to collect feedback from residents, community stakeholders and City staff on women and gender gaps and service needs.
