1. OCA News
a. ConneXions Spring issue
Editor Alex Pope has put out a call for stories and photos about the amazing people of this community for the Spring commemorative issue of our community newspaper. Submissions are due to editor@overbrook.ca by April 30.
Here are some ideas for how you can contribute:
Whether you’ve been here many years or a few months, tell us your Overbrook story: how/why/when you came here, what it means to you, your favourite people and places in Overbrook.
A profile of a friend, neighbour, local business etc.
Photos of Overbrook “way back when.” If you’ve lived here a long time, break out the photo albums and let’s see our familiar streetscapes as they looked 10, 20, 30 or more years ago.
Histories of Overbrook and archival research.
Or, if you have other story ideas, please let Alex know at editor@overbrook.ca.
b. Overbrook 100: Mark the dates!
The Gloucester Historical Society Annual General Meeting, co-hosted by OCA and with a focus on Overbrook this year, will be held on Sunday May 1st from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Overbrook Community Centre (33 Quill St).
For more ways to join the fun, see the poster below!
c. Donations keep us going!
d. Help protect our trees from Spongy moth (LDD) + Riverside Memorial Park Clean-up
Our trees and green spaces are important!
The City needs help to protect trees from the Spongy Moth (LDD, formerly known as the Gypsy Moth) which can cause heavy damage. They will be distributing burlap to associations, who, in turn, will distribute it to volunteers to install it.
If you would like to volunteer to put burlap on trees near the river, please stop by Riverside Memorial Park (North River Rd between Queen Mary and King George Sts) on Saturday, April 30 (rain date Sunday, May 1) between 9 am and noon to pick up your burlap from OCA’s Heather Amys or contact us at info@overbrook.ca.
If you can, stay to help out with the Riverside Memorial Park clean-up that morning, part of the City’s Cleaning the Capital campaign.
2. New Official Plan update
Alex Cullen, President of the Federation of Citizens’ Associations (FCA), wrote to OCA and other members of FCA’s Planning and Zoning Committee on Thursday with news that the City’s Official Plan has not received approval from the Minister within the required 120 days under the Planning Act. He also reported that the Province has put all municipal official plan approvals on hold pending the outcome of Bill 109 - More Homes for Everybody Act.
Cullen went on to say that it is not clear if Bill 109 will be passed by the Ontario Legislature before the provincial election since there are only about 9 sitting days for the Ontario Legislature before the writ drops on May 4 and the government will be presenting a budget during this time. He believes this will certainly make the status of the City's OP an election issue, particularly how much it depends on intensification to accommodate most growth (60%), with some urban expansion (40%). There continues to be pressure to add to the City's urban boundaries.
3. Spring Cleaning the Capital is underway!
Join the Riverside Memorial Park clean-up on Saturday, April 30 (rain date May 1) between 9 am and noon or organize a clean-up somewhere else in the neighbourhood as part of Cleaning the Capital.
You can register a clean-up project until April 30, 2022.
Choose a site, pick a clean-up date between April 15 and May 31 and invite friends and neighbours to join you
Cleanup kits will be made available for pick up at seven City of Ottawa facilities, including the Overbrook Community Centre.
Join thousands of community volunteers to help keep Ottawa clean and green in 2022!

City staff is currently preparing a Background report and recommended changes to the bylaw.
