1. A big step forward on the Ward Boundary Appeal
City Council has approved a motion providing for the City’s Legal Services to pursue settlement of OCA’s ward boundary appeal by seeking the by-law modifications from the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT) that will reflect the changes we have asked for. In other words, the City is agreeing to settle in our favour and now it is up to the lawyers to finalize the settlement for final approval by LPAT.
Thanks to the OCA team who have worked hard to make this happen and to our generous donors. As noted previously, the full appeal fee was paid up front. A response to our application for a reduction available to not-for-profit organizations is still pending.
2. Thursday - Join Councillor King for a virtual Town Hall on the draft Official Plan and read OCA key messages
Councillor Rawlson King is inviting constituents to join him on Thursday, April 15, at 6 p.m. for a virtual Town Hall meeting to discuss the City of Ottawa’s New Official Plan. Visit rideau-rockcliffe.ca/newop to register for the meeting.
OCA shared our detailed input to the City on the draft plan in our March 22 bulletin. We encourage you to read the one-page summary we have prepared to capture our key comments for Councillor King.
3. Friday - Pop-up vaccination clinic at the Overbrook Community Centre ages 50+
UPDATE Apr 15 - the Friday clinic is fully booked but pop-up clinics are ongoing in our area and people 50 years or older living in our community can call Ottawa Public Health at 613-691-5505 (7:30 am to 6 pm) to confirm their eligibility and make an appointment.
People aged 60 and older can book using the number above OR by using the provincial booking Ontario.ca/bookvaccine OR by calling 1-833-943-3900
4. Saturday - You are invited to a Walkability Workshop: Trees in Overbrook
Ecology Ottawa is joining Walkable Ottawa and arborist Andrew Boyd to hold a workshop to consider neighbourhood walkability with a focus on how to protect the tree canopy and you are invited! The goal of the workshop is to put together a proposed plan of action that would get a sample Overbrook street to 40% canopy as quickly as possible, and then maintain that percentage of tree canopy indefinitely.
The workshop will take place on Zoom over two Saturdays: Saturday April 17th, 9.30am - 10.30am EST AND Saturday April 24th 9.30am - 12.30pm EST
RSVP today to receive the two Zoom links for each part of the workshop.

6. Local politicians urge province to declare more COVID-19 hot spots
CBC Ottawa is reporting that Ottawa-Vanier MPP Lucille Collard wrote to the Minister of Health last week asking that the neighbourhoods of Vanier and Overbrook either be designated hot spots or have local pharmacies added to the pharmacy vaccine pilot. OCA had contacted her about this issue and will continue to collaborate with her to address gaps in our area. Thanks to MPP Collard for her action!
CBC is also reporting that more Ottawa pharmacies will begin offering the AstraZeneca vaccine to ages 55+ including one in Vanier and three downtown. Pharmacies will be added to the provincial list of COVID-19 pharmacy vaccine locations as they begin to offer the vaccine.
