Between June 3 and August 16, 2026, 41 Overbrook residents shared their priorities for our neighbourhood in the OCA’s Community Priorities Survey. It was an open, self-selected survey, not a scientific poll, so it reflects the residents who chose to respond. The themes were clear, and we’re sharing them with candidates during this year’s municipal election.
Top priorities
- Traffic and road safety was named by 68% of respondents. Queen Mary, Donald, North River, Lola and the Vanier Parkway intersections came up most.
- Green space, parks and tree canopy was named by 49%.
- Crime and community safety was named by 39%, and cycling and pedestrian infrastructure by 37%.
Development and consultation
Residents are divided on the pace of new development. 49% say growth is fine when done thoughtfully, 22% say it’s too fast, and 15% say it’s too slow. The clearer finding is about process: 20 of 41 respondents rate the City’s consultation before approving major projects as poor, and only 5 rate it 4 or 5. It averaged 2.46 out of 5, the lowest score in the survey.
What we’re asking candidates
- Commit to a traffic safety review of Queen Mary, Donald, North River, Lola and the Vanier Parkway intersections.
- Reform the development consultation process.
- Protect mature tree canopy and manage invasive species as density continues.
- Support Ottawa Community Housing tenants with repairs and redevelopment plans.
- Engage residents on both sides of the development-pace debate.
