Transportation committee approves bridge over Rideau

Money not yet budgeted for pedestrian crossing

Plans for a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge across the Rideau River received easy approval from city council’s transportation committee Wednesday, indicating a big change in councillors’ attitude toward such projects over the past few years.

There’s no money budgeted for the $7-million bridge yet, but councillors signed off the conclusions of a study that recommended putting the new span between Somerset Street East and Donald Street.

The idea is to better link Overbrook and Vanier with Sandy Hill and the University of Ottawa and to provide an easier route, particularly for westbound…..  SEE FULL STORY:
