Are your donation items for the Garage Sale all ready to go?

Now’s your chance to declutter! Our pickup vans and trucks will be making the rounds from 8 to 10 am on Saturday, 9 May. We are looking for books, treasures and small household items.

If you don’t wish to wait until Saturday, you can drop off donations at the Overbrook Community Centre during the week. The Centre staff have kindly offered to store items until Saturday.

COMMUNITY GARAGE SALE: Saturday, 9 May, 9 am-2pm

Garage sale season is upon us! Here the perfect opportunity to go to the Overbrook Community Centre, meet and greet your neighbours, enjoy a BBQ lunch or snacks, browse all the treasures and find some bargains.

On the other hand, you might want to clean the basement and hold a sale at your home. The OCA does the advertising; shoppers will come!

Another option is to rent a table at the Centre to sell your stuff ($15 outside; $20 inside). Contact Joanne at

Want to get rid of stuff at minimum fuss? The OCA will pick up your donations (small items only; no furniture) after 8 am on Saturday, 9 May. Leave items on your driveway marked “OCA” and we do the rest.

Traffic disruptions and road closures during Ottawa Race Weekend

The City of Ottawa wants to remind motorists to expect traffic disruptions as several downtown streets will be closed on Saturday and Sunday to accommodate the annual Ottawa Race Weekend. Please note that, with the exception of the children’s race, this year’s routes are the same as last year.

Race events are scheduled for Saturday afternoon and evening Saturday, May 24, and all morning and early afternoon on Sunday, May 25.

Each race begins at the corner of Elgin Street and Laurier Avenue, outside Ottawa City Hall, and ends at the Cartier Drill Hall along the Queen Elizabeth Driveway. Several downtown Ottawa streets will be partially or completely closed to vehicular traffic.

Check the Ottawa Race Weekend website to see which streets will be affected.

Ottawa Police, City officials and race officials will monitor activities so as to minimize any potential traffic impacts. Motorists planning to travel in and around these areas on Saturday and Sunday should consider taking alternate routes.

Local residents affected by the road closures should check the Ottawa Race Weekend website for information.

The City of Ottawa appreciates motorists’ patience during this time.
