Congratulations WENDY! / Félicitations WENDY!
Overbrook resident, formerly OCA Secretary and Director, Wendy Dennys won the Innovation Award at Crime Prevention Ottawa‘s 11th Annual Awards Ceremony Monday night for her pivotal role in bringing community-based theatre to Overbrook in the form of Overbrook the Musical, Overbrook Diary and Starry Nights. Wendy’s love of people, community and theatre shone through as she worked tirelessly to create the confidence and conditions for Overbrookies to celebrate their stories and connect with neighbours and friends. Thank you Wendy! By the way, the manual Wendy co-wrote with Diewke de Haen about how to create a community adventure in theatre can be found at the following link:
Minwaashin Lodge’s Street Team OutReach Mobile (STORM) was also honoured at the Awards Ceremony. STORM assists women who are at-risk, homeless or involved in street culture, especially those who identify as Indigenous. The STORM team provides emergency transportation, interventions, hygiene products, lunches, clothing, blankets, health education and referrals to services.

Invitation to a Celebration, November 9, 4pm
Please find below details on a short community celebration that a number of Overbrook folks are collaborating on. It is part of a series of special anniversary commemorations that are being held in a variety of ways by Baha’i communities around the world.
At this event we will hear from and showcase some of the emerging programs that Baha’is and their friends are conducting, which empower the children and youth of our neighbourhood. This community-building work is very much in line with the desire of many in Overbrook to foster neighbourly relations and unity within our community, a constructive and positive contribution to crime prevention and safety. These programs are open to children and youth from all backgrounds and faith groups. They focus on developing virtues within young people and empower them to be of service to the community. These programs are run completely by volunteers, many of whom are teens and 20-somethings who provide mentoring and personal example in the Junior Youth Empowerment Program.
All are very welcome to attend!
4-5 pm November 9, 2019

This celebration is being held in honour of the 200th anniversary of the Birth of the Bab, whose beautiful message prepared for the coming of Baha’u’llah the Founder of the Baha’i Faith.
