Job Opportunity: Overbrook Sens Rink Operator Wanted!!

The City of Ottawa Recreation and parks is providing a grant for the operation of the Overbrook Sens Rink and is seeking a Rink Operator and volunteers to maintain and supervise the rink.

Grant Funding

  • Total Funding – $ 5,882 ($3505 for maintenance, $2,379 for supervision)
  • The intent of the grant funding is to be used to offset the direct costs of maintaining the rink (ex. purchase/maintenance of a snowblower). Funding is spent at the discretion of the rink operator.
  • Grant funding is released in three installments, based on the completion of certain milestones

§ 1st installment (30%) – released upon signature of the contract (December 2018)

§ 2nd installment (30%) – released upon completion of base ice (January 2019)

§ 3rd installment (40%) – released upon return of keys at the end of season (March 2019)

Roles & Responsibilities

Create base ice by packing snow and flooding
Daily scraping of the ice
Flood the rink (minimum 4 times per week, weather permitting)
Snow removal
Maintain emergency access path
Provide a minimum of 20 supervised skating hours per week (opening the fieldhouse for public use, volunteer on-site throughout)


Volunteers must be willing to provide a valid Police Record Check (Level 3)
Season dates: December 15 – February 28 (weather permitting)
Training is provided by the Seasonal Recreation Unit
