On Saturday, June 11, residents gathered for the official grand opening of Riverside Memorial Park.
Located at the corner of Queen Mary Street and North River Road, the park commemorates veterans, and creates a space for both children and seniors in the community.
Overbrook residents Joanne Lockyer, Sue Carson and Wendy Dennys officially unveiled the memorial in honour of veterans.
The memorial denotes that Riverside Memorial Park was created to honour the men and women from the Overbrook community who served in the First and Second World Wars. The park was developed in 2013 as place for all who gather in freedom. Anne Prowse describes the history of the park below.
Over the years $3,500 was raised by the community, and $114,000 came from the ward’s cash-in-lieu of parking, in order to fund to the park’s memorial and play structures.
