Our neighbourhood is home to some of Ottawa’s most vulnerable and at-risk families. Over the summer, many of these families will struggle to find affordable daycare and activities for their school aged children.
To address this issue, the non-profit organization Pro-Active Education for All Children’s Enrichment (PEACE), is partnering with the Rideau-Rockcliffe Community Resource Centre to create a summer day camp for Overbrook’s underprivileged children.
The camp will run eight weeks during summer break and will offer exciting, engaging, and educational programming. Although the camp will be located in Overbrook, children from all areas of the city will be welcome to register.
Camp fees will be charged according to family income using the city of Ottawa’s online childcare subsidy calculator. Any family on Ontario Works or the Ontario Disability Support Program, as well as any refugees in their first 12 months in Canada, will be registered for free.
Running such an exciting and dynamic camp comes at a cost. In order for this camp to be a success, over $7,000 must still be raised to cover costs of employing sufficiently qualified staff, purchasing materials, providing transportation and for paying admission fees for field trips.
How you can help:
Sponsorship groups can consider donating a sum as a group. (If seven groups offered $1,000 each, we would reach our goal!) Individuals can also choose to donate. The simplest way to donate is by following this link, click the DONATE button, in the scroll down menu select SUMMER CAMP, charitable receipts can then be downloaded and printed instantly:
If you own a business please consider sponsoring the PEACE Summer Camp, or consider asking your employer if they might be interested in helping out. Corporate sponsor logos will be featured on camp T-shirt and advertising opportunities will be available at all of our fundraising events.
Donate Items for Fundraiser
Our first fundraising event will be a Garage Sale and BBQ.
It will be held at the Rideau-Rockcliffe Community Resource Centre at 225 Donald St. on Saturday, June 18 th from 9am-3pm.
We are hoping for your support.
We need items to sell at the garage sale. Please consider donating old items you no longer use or want.
- Kitchen or other household items
- Sports equipment
- Purses and Shoes
- CDs and DVDs
We will also need baked goods to sell in the morning.
We would also love to hear from you if you are able to volunteer to help run the event. We can sign student volunteer hours for any high school students.
Garage sale items and baked goods can be dropped off at 225 Donald Street, on Friday, June 17 between 3 pm and 5 pm, or on Saturday, June 18 between 8:30 am and 10:00 am.
Consider donating used, unwanted items to our garage sale. The camp is also looking for specific craft and art supplies and bus tickets.
PEACE Summer Camp is looking for several volunteers to help at fundraising events and to work with the kids at the camp. Camp volunteers would be asked to work 1-2 hours a day, one to five days per week. This is an excellent option for high school students looking to gain volunteer hours.
