The Kiwanis Music Festival encourages and promotes the enjoyment and study of music in our community’s young people through the production of an annual month-long competitive music festival.
Participants derive individual benefit from independent instruction provided by highly qualified adjudicators and from the experience of performing before a live audience. Every year, the Festival awards $50,000 in scholarships and many participants go on to provincial and national competitions. Most of the participants are students attending primary, secondary and post-secondary institutions in our community.
The impressive level of performance at each venue represents a sort of mini-concert each morning, afternoon and evening, thereby enriching the cultural life of our community.
The Kiwanis are still short a few “front-of-house” volunteers to greet arrivals and sell tickets to audience members at several venues, particularly for vocal sessions at St. Timothy’s Presbyterian Church at 2400 Alta Vista Drive.
There are some open spots for morning and afternoon sessions but we are particularly short of help during the evenings:
Sun Apr 17, Mon Apr 18, Tue Apr 19, Thu Apr 21, Mon Apr 25, Tue Apr 26 and Wed Apr 27. Hours of duty are 6:15 to about 9:00 PM.
According to the Kiwanis, it’s an “easy gig” and no previous experience required and a chance to listen to some amazing young singers!
