OCA supports call for “Student Housing Strategy”

At a Board meeting on 16 January, the Overbrook Community Association voted to support a call by 15 area community associations for the City to develop a “Student Housing Strategy.”

This move has been prompted by a growing post-secondary student enrollment, a failure of universities and colleges to keep up with housing demands, and the pressure that results from home owners applying for conversions and developers pushing for permits to build buildings suitable for students when no appropriate zoning is in place.

A comprehensive strategy is particularly important for Overbrook, given the proximity to Ottawa University and the construction of the multi-purpose bridge at Donald Street.
