Place: Overbrook Community Centre Park, 33 Quill Street, Ottawa K1K 4E7
Time: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Overbrook Community Gardens is a community project initiated by the Overbrook Community Association. Our partners include students and Staff from Rideau High School, the City of Ottawa, Just Food Ottawa, Community Development Framework, Overbrook Community Centre, Rideau-Rockcliffe Community Resource Centre Food Bank and a growing number of interested members.
Our goals include :
- Promoting environmental awareness and sustainable community in Overbrook
- Promoting gardens, healthy food and sustainable food practices.
Twenty-four garden boxes are constructed and installed by the students, staff and community volunteers on site at the Overbrook Community Centre. This construction will be a long term project of growing food for our community. The site will be managed by the Overbrook Community Gardens group of volunteers. Application forms are available at the Overbrook Community Centre. Priority for garden box rental is given to Overbrook Residents. Rental cost is $25.00 for 2013. Growing food is our focus, along with composting and good gardening practice. We hope that families, friends and neighbourhood groups will join together to participate in this project.
Our funding is a result of OCA applying for grants to the City of Ottawa Community Environmental Projects Grants Program (CEPGP) and Just Food Ottawa.
