Feedback on Urban Lanes Meeting Last Night

At an OCA-sponsored meeting last night, almost 18% of lane way-abutting properties owners attended to get information and to voice their concerns with regard to the City’s Urban Lanes Encroachment & Management Policies (copies available under “Back Lanes” tab).

A copy of the presentation by Alain Miguelez, Planning Department, City of Ottawa, is available below:

Thought you might find this entertaining and also confusing. I wasn’t at the meeting but this is the presentation made by the city. A lot of it is gobblety gook but there are some interesting bits as well. This city stands steadfastly behind it’s developers while stabbing it’s tax payers in the back.

I did attend the meeting and was disappointed to find that Peter Clark wa not in attendance.
Part of his mission statement is to “protect the character of our communities”
I for one did not wholy understand the presentation, as it was somewhat confusing.
What I do understand is that the lanes, which according to City Hall have been deemed “public highways” are just “lanes” .
Where was City Hall for the past 100 or so years when the residents were encroaching on the land
and did nothing to stop the encroachment. They let everyone have a false sense of entitlement, even though no monies were ever collected by the city.
Perhaps the lanes in Overbrook should be dealt with in a different manner from those
that are part of the cities new “Urban Lanes Encroachment and Management Policies”.
Maybe these policies should cover existing lanes currently in use and those incorporated in new developments.
